Armacao dos Buzios (2/19) and Salvador de Bahia (2/21)

Buzios is a resort town made famous by Brigette Bardot in the 1960s.  She visited the town twice when it was a little fishing village to avoid the paparazzi.  That was all it took to put the place on the map and nothing has been the same there since.

Views around the town center primarily shopping, restaurants, and bars.

The area has over 20 beaches both on the mainland and several outlaying islands.  transport is by water taxi.

There are a number of party boats.  They reminded us a bit of Chinese junks in Hong Kong.

What they look like full of partiers.

It was windy, as you can see from Noreen’s hair.

What a tender looks like heading back to the ship when you just missed it.

On to Salvador da Bahia, still Brazil.  Salvador is a very interesting place.  The vast majority of the population is of Black African origin.  This is very evident throughout the city in the music, art and food.  Particularly in the Cidade Alta or Upper City.  Oh, there is an Upper and Lower City.  And if you don’t want to take the narrow winding roads you take the elevator to go between them.  There a four elevators each holding about 15 people and there are traffic jams at peak hours.

In the Upper City is our first stop to visit an old friend.

Of course South America has a rich tradition of churches.  There are a lot of them.  We don’t usually go by religious buildings.  This one was in the center of the Upper City so we included in this blog.  we couldn’t get inside.

Now this is a low stress job.  I was tempted to buy something just to see if he would move.

Never to young to start.  I watched him for a while and he was a great salesman.

One item of note.  I went out on our balcony to check the weather.  Then I couldn’t open the sliding door to get back into our room.  Our room steward tried on the inside, then climbed over the balcony divider to try from the outside.  Here we are looking in at Noreen.  Still stuck outside.

Stuck door 2

They finally had to call engineering.  They took the door apart to open it.

Stuck door 5

We left to see the town.  When we got back all was in order and the door has worked fine.  Hope you enjoyed this entry.  Stay in touch.
